Sure - that's why I mentioned paperclips. Also consider rubberbands.

I've switched to plastic paperclips, I'm not sure what *they* meta-
morphose into. And as the host organism of a parasitic semi'bent, I
must point out the existence of many species of HPVs [Human Powered
Vehicles]: mono- & bi- & tri- & quadri-cycles; upright ["wedgies"],
semi- and fully-recumbent ["'bents"]; zero-to-many seats; water- and
air-borne variants, and even some subs. The ardent researcher will
seek to identify the larval and pupal forms of each species. My
highly-evolved BikeE semi'bent < http://www.bikee.com > comes from
a far different galaxy than a Huffy< http://www.huffy.com > bomber.
And note that old-style bikes HAD overwhelmed the Chinese Communist
Empire; but the transition to Red Capitalism has lead to a surge in
automobiles and a drastic drop in the bike population. What alien
dominance games are being played out here? Are HPV invaders digging
strong beachheads in North America and Europe while being thrown back
from the rest of the world? What's the Chinese paperclip situation?
Does the advent of plastic paperclips spell the doom of bicycles?
