Or perhaps because they wanted to save the desired effect for other films down
the line... The public does have a remarkable inability to tell the difference
between docudrama, documentary, and mockumentary. "The Blair Witch Project" is
a case in point, as is Oliver Stone's "JFK". A few years ago NBC aired a
chilling TV-movie about nuclear terrorism which looked and felt like a
realtime newscast; they had to run announcements every few minutes to remind
people that this was not the real thing. The line between "physical reality"
and "virtual reality" is becoming increasingly blurred. How long now before we
have "apparitions" of Princess Diana floating on the clouds over Kosovo or
Kashmir?
