It's not a matter of 'belief'; it is a matter of accepting extraordinary claims. If
one makes an
extraordinary claim, but has nothing to back it up with, then that person should not
be surprised that most
people retain a modicum of skepticism.
That is not to say the claim should be dismissed...but until further documentation and
proof is provided, it
really is just one person's word for it.
And yes, if JonBenet Ramsey had survived to adulthood and then suddenly remembered a
childhood of sexual
abuse, she WOULD be told "tough, you can't prove it", because in our society one is
presumed innocent until
PROVEN guilty. Unless JonBenet could offer something other than her personal
memories, her claims of abuse
would be no more (and no less) valid than the claims of her supposed abusers that the
abuse never happened.

Or she would get her act together and put the effort into getting the documentation
and evidence needed to
back up her claims. And if she couldn't, she wouldn't waste bandwidth on various
email lists continually
touting her unsubstantiated claims.
In other words, she would direct her energies into more productive outlets, instead of
wasting her time and
the time of hundreds of email readers by continually espousing her claims without
offering any evidentiary
documentation for such claims.
