Well, despite the strange things shown by xev, I don't have problems
with JabRef 2.10, myself. This was just a first attempt to get to the
bottom of the problem and show what is happening while things still work.
The real trouble starts with JabRef 3.4, which requires OpenJDK 8 and
won't do a thing most of the time when trying to type in the web search
dialogue.
I have FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p7 for i386.
