I don't want it running in any case. I don't wipe out extra properities
I just add my own. It is gnome that likes to wipe them out!

Gconf got it. But that still does not explain how to effect gnome
configurations.

That is what I mean.
| gconf-editor is interactive and can be used to browse through the
| settings database. It helps to find the desired settings. Sometimes

Though it isn't installed, but I see it on the available packages list.
Hmmm very interesting, except for an editor, it can't delete old usless
entries of things I never run (except as a once only test long ago).
