The older versions had a volume control.  I used to turn it up to make
sure the connection was getting established with the other end.  You can
kinda tell by the sounds.

In the old days we used to have to set the domain in kppp to match the
isp domain.  dont know if that is still neccessary.

there should be some log options in kppp that you can turn on and look
thru.  that may help you discover what the problem is.  is the other end
trying to authenticate but is denying it?  are you even connecting with
the other end to start the authentication process?  etc.  the logs will
tell.  do you have the show log window option on?
