Thanks, L.V. I have a cellar jack that separates SBC from the in house phone lines that I use to check the SBC line before I call them to complain about a phone line problem that may be mine and incur a fee for a service call. They have replaced my under the road phone line twice when I could only connect at 18Kbps(grounds in phone line that they diagnose from their station with the house phone lines disconnected). I now connect at 50.6Kbps and the internet connection doesn't arbitrarily disconnect while I'm downloading. I could put a "filter" there. I would like to know what frequencies they are filtering? Phone is analog audio frequency probably about 3K cps limit. Is DSL an interrupted carrier? What carrier frequency? Does the DSL modem modulate/demodulate like the dialup modem at a different frequency? I'll read the friendly manual if I have to. Tony ----- Original Message ----- From: "L. V. If I understand correctly, they are low-pass filters, and prevent
your phone from introducing high-frequency noise onto the line where
your DSL modem is.

Pretty close, .. actually the DSL signal can add noise to a regular phone,
so the purpose of the blocks is to *prevent* DSL signal from coming
through on regular phones. Otherwise, some phones can product a lot of
static noise when a DSL signal gets through to the earpiece.

On every phone jack. The jack where the DSL modem is can either not
have a filter or have a filter that's also a splitter.

An option would be to put a *single* DSL block on the jack where all your
phone lines plug into the demark (the SBC equipment in the basement or
outside wall).
