I do see the prompt. I'm thinking the same thing, but I don't know
what "right" looks like, either.

Apparently, wvdial takes care of that because I input the username/
password in the wvdial.conf file and it appears in both /etc/ppp/
{pap,chap}-secrets files.

Doesn't look like it:

Adding +ppp didn't make a difference. I'm suspecting that I need to
be at the console, bring down the NIC, and then dial out using wvdial
or kppp. I'll try that tonight.
