I'm running Ubuntu 8.04. Naturally, there's been a few kernel updates
over the last few months. But my menu.lst file hasn't been updating.
I'm still running Linux ubuntu 2.6.24-17 even though /boot/ is listing
up to 2.6.24.21, the last of which I got this morning. And even after
manually running update-grub, although it lists all the kernels, it
doesn't actually update menu.lst.

I was able to manually edit menu.1st and that worked. Also, after
making a backup of menu.lst, deleting it from /boot/grub/, and then
running update-grub, it created a proper menu.lst. But I'm wondering if
this is happening to anyone else on this list. There seems to be a bug
about it:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/202009

On the other hand, after creating a proper menu.lst and rebooting with
the latest kernel, it didn't boot normally, and went into some kind of
safe mode with limited graphics. I only tested that with this morning's
kernel update (I'd do further testing, but continually rebooting my
computer is annoying ;). Just reverted back to 2.6.24.17 and all is
well again. I'm guessing that's a separate issue, but I'm not too
concerned about it since *.17 is fine with me. Still, thought I'd
mention it in case someone knew something.
