According to HP's online chat, not quite ...

tmk : mainboard has 4 DDR SDRAMM slots
Calvin S : Correct.
tmk : one is occupied with a 512MB PC3200 DDR-SDRAM chip
tmk : three are empty
tmk : is it a problem to put a 1024MB PC3200 DDR-SDRAM chip into slot 2?
Calvin S : No. You can install it. However, HP recommends to install
only 512MB maximum in each slot.
tmk : why is that?
tmk : i saw that in specs, but no explanation
Calvin S : HP has tested with 512MB in each slot and confirmed that PC
performs well with this configuration.
Calvin S : However, the motherboard manufacturer claims it can take 1 GB
per slot.
tmk : so because you have not tested option b you recommend option a?
tmk : or is there a technical reason?
Calvin S : I am afraid, I do not have the specific reason.
Calvin S : Please install and check.
Calvin S : It should work.

I went and asked HP (live chat with Calvin S the technician).
"Unmatched pairs will work". However, if you meet all the requirements
for dual channel mode, it provides increased performance over single
channel mode.

So I am going to order them the 1GB chip, and will let you know how it
turns out.
