Insert RAM chip into slot 2.  Boot up, check BIOS:

512MB DDR RAM in slot 1
1024MB DDR RAM in slot 2

Boot into Windoze, things load much faster than before.  Neighbor happy.
Two-second job.  Fixed!

The only sad part is how much they got charged the last time they paid
to get a memory upgrade.  Not anymore!
