There is also an earlier article about what malware authors are doing to
prevent software piracy:

This gives details on how much it costs to obtain botnet software with new
hardware protection keys.
The Register article reports 4,000 Macs being affected, but doesn't say how
any of the machines were attacked, although it sounds like it may have been
specific to the banking software used to access bank accounts at a
particular bank. I'm guessing the bank software must have used some
cross-platform method. I still want to see how the malware was propagated.
And I still feel safer using my Mac...
