Hi Dick,

1. What do you do about spam?

I.M.H.O. there is are only two practical things that you can do about spam
being sent to your personal mail account: (a) utilize a good filtering
program and (B) ignore the reset.

As for spam that originates from customer use of your computer systems, that
should not be a problem if you are set-up properly. Any spam that they might
generate should be directed toward either their own e-mail address or a
dummy account. We use a dummy account system. If a customer goes to a site
or does something that results in spam, the email address provided is a real
mail account but all mail sent to it goes directly to the trash bin, without
stopping at Go.

2. Is Hotmail problematic?

Hotmail has always been problematic. The speed and problems associated with
Hotmail go up and down in a gentle rhythm. It works fine for awhile and then
all hell breaks loose. We had a discrete sign placed beside the cashier area
that specifically targets Hotmail. It simply states that payment is for use
of our computer systems and availability of any specific site or service is
not beyond our control and responsibility.

BTW... Our most commonly asked e-mail question is... "Is Hotmail working
today?" You'd think that customers would learn from their very own
questions. If they have to constantly check if Hotmail is working, why
wouldn't they change?

3. What mail package do you use?

We provided customers with Outlook Express, Eudora Lite, and of course they
have access to all the web based sites. Outlook or Microsoft's Mail program
is set-up with a dummy e-mail address. Any junk that comes back to that
address automatically goes to the trash. If a customer wishes to change the
options to another e-mail address, they are free to do so. When a customer
logs onto a Digital Access workstation, the default mail address is reset to
the dummy e-mail. If the customer is a Member, and has set-up their personal
information file in Digital Access, its resets the mail reader program to
their own address each time they sign onto a station. When they sign-off the
station, any mail that they have left behind is deleted, so it cannot be
viewed by later customers.
