Hi Dick,
Although your situation is different than most here on the Cybercafe list,
it is not unique. We deal with a chain of outlets (who have requested to
remain nameless) who have similar locations.
When we first started dealing with them, they too had coin boxes or cash
validators on each computer. One of the things that we were able to do for
them was to eliminate most of their coin boxes, without disrupting the
ability to accept cash in a self-serve environment.
We provided them with our Digital Access ReCharger - an add-on component to
our Digital Access Management System. The ReCharger station has two cash
acceptors attached. One is all that is basically required but a second is
provided as an alternative in case of a paper jam or it becomes full between
pickups. Through the ReCharger, customers can register a new Membership
account and activate a magnetic stripe card, add funds to an existing
account or pay for time on a 24 hr temporary cash account. If they choose to
use the 24 hr temporary account, they are provided with a random access
code. The customers can then go to any computer station and swipe their card
or enter their access code to sign-on.
The ReCharger solution cuts the number of cash validators down to 2,
regardless of how many computer stations are at a site. This has worked very
well and this account now has many outlets around the world - all operating
virtually without on-site staff.
As a side note, this ReCharger solution can also be used by high volume
outlets as an Express Self-Serve Payment Center.
