If the Police are not willing to use Hollow points because
od bad PR, what happens if they have to shoot someone
and the bullet they are using dosen't do the job properly
and the crim then manages to shoot an Officer or
Member pf the public? Also what happens if an SP that
hasn't stopped in the target kills a bystander? Surely this
is all opening the field for a rather large law suit given that
it wouldn't be all that difficult to show that the Polce were
not using the bullet best suited to the job?

This is EXACTLY what I said to NYC police back around 1993
when they came up with the insane policy of issuing 9mm
FMJ to patrol officers. Result, loads of bystanders shot,
largely because of the DAO trigger pull on the issue guns,
although there was one case I can think of where a guy
was shot and the bullet went through him and hit a
bystander behind him.

Originally they were going to have ten-round mags as well,
the only advantage I could see to that is less shot
bystanders when they miss!

Now NYCPD use (or rather sell, as officers buy their service
guns) only the Glock, which had the best trigger pull out
of three 9mms they originally approved, and they also
use a hollowpoint (can't remember which).

How is it that the HO can issue zillions of silly press
releases about how wonderful the handgun ban is but not
make any effort whatsoever to convince the public of
the massive benefits (nearly all to the public) of using
JHP instead of JSP or FMJ?

If you know anything about ballistics, can you think of
anything more stupid than mandating one of the most
penetrative types of ammunition there is in one of the
most densely populated countries in the world?

Steve.
