The problem I encounter is that politicians expect organisations to be
fairly aggressive in making their point, that is what they are used to.

If you are too sedate they just doze off. I see the Campaign for Shooting
is being fairly aggressive in attacking the bad HAC recommendations, which
is a good start, what I would like to see though is something that is
pro-active as well, i.e. saying what we want, rather than just what we
don't want.

Exactly, the real problem with the BASC and it's leadership is it's total
lack of pro-active, hard-nosed street fightin' _attitude_. They may be
great at _consultation_, but they always act like gentlemen in any
_consultation_ process and the Goverment knows this, as a direct consequence
we get shafted. In my experience the staff at the BASC are brilliant, but
the leadership, though excellent at administration, are weak and ineffectual
in the most important area ... the political arena.

Unlike the NRA in the States which does the very opposite - example - the
descision to open an NRA shopfront, complete with restaurant serving game
dishes, right in the heart of that bastion of gun control ... New York !!!
Now that kind of approach takes testicles and it's an approach we need to
adopt World-wide, we also need to get everyone under the same roof so that
we can stop this nonsense in the UN.

Politics is a dirty business and we must use the same tactics (or worse) to
bring home the message. There is no need to restort to a coup d'etat to
acheive what must be done, just do what the anti's have done ... death by a
thousand cuts ... the sword has two edges ... the only question is can we
get the leadership to swing the blade with might as well as right ?

Regards,

Paul

The $64,000 question is whether we can ever all agree on what we do want,
Lord Kimball's idiotic submission to the HAC being a case in point.

I made a 50 page submission to the HAC on what _I_ would want, the question
is whether it is what anyone else wants.

I am running for NRA Council with the express intent of trying to get the
NRA to be more pro-active, and I have some concrete albeit modest ideas
of what I would like to see them do, as I am determined that the NRA can
convince politicians to make workable changes to the gun laws given
the NRA's relatively small resources.

One idea I had that was very modest indeed but relatively simple to do would
be for the NRA to take custody of say a dozen pistols and a dozen SA80s from
the MoD and be able to rent them for use on Bisley ranges to FAC holders.
This would enable the NRA to achieve the primary stated purpose of their
existence, give them a revenue source, and also make things a lot more fun
for target shooters.

For example.

There's lots of little ideas I think which could make shooting much better
in this country and would be relatively easy to achieve with a bit of
effort.
