The three schools you mention all have web sites:

http://www.ayoob.com/ LFI
http://www.thunderranchinc.com/ Thunder Ranch
http://www.gunsite.net/index.htm Gunsite

The other two "big name" shooting schools in the US are probably

The Chapman Academy http://members.aol.com/kingtmr/, and
The Smith & Wesson Academy
http://www.smith-wesson.com/academy/index.html

There is no shortage of schools though, there is a list on :

I have to agree with Steve that Thunder Ranch looks the most impressive
facility. However, I have trained under Massad Ayoob (in the UK would you
believe) courtesy of the SRA. I did his "Stress-fire" course and LFI 1 & 2.
Mass worked for some years as a journalist for a Police magazine reporting
"officer involved" shootings. His training material is based on the many
shooting incidents he covered. I found him an entertaining and credible
instructor (although of course you may not get the great man himself on the
course) and I suspect his training would be the most relevant to domestic
self defense or similar shooting skills although he was a very successful
IPSC competitor in his day. He has written a number of books which set out
the approach he advocates (available from his web site). I do not have an
direct experience of the other two schools you mention (not yet anyway). I
would be very interested to hear any feed back on whichever school you choose.

Incidentally I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions on shooting
in Florida.

Ken
