Yes, they are.

I have no objection to no-working-tree, and will most likely use it myself
under some circumstances.  But I do need no-pristine-tree to stay.

That's a bug, then, which I haven't noticed because all of my ``old''
repositories are in the classic format.  I'll be mighty grateful to anyone
who decides to fix it.
