Mmh. Seems to be OK here. Maybe that mode acts a bit surprising at first sight but I think it's consistent. coloradjustment only influences color. All lightness data is taken from the output image of the module. So if you make a strong S-curve you will get a marked contrast boost on the whole image. Only the color modifications of the module are tuned by that blend mode. If you have no or only a very minor color changes the effect may get very subtle. To get a better feeling try to make a strong color change (e.g. flat a and b curves) - then apply coloradjustment mode and some drawn masks. Works as expected.
