Hi All,

For those struggling with Filmic, have you checked out the author's videos?

Do not expect it to replicate the camera's original processing; it was
never intended to do so.

The way I use it:
I turn it on with 0 contrast.
Adjust exposure (using the exposure module) so it looks about right.
The reason is that Aurélien has said that the input colour matrix
works best for midtones (correctly exposed photos). Back in filmic, on
the 'scene' tab, I can fine-tune luminance using filmic's 'grey
luminance' later (it auto-adjusts white and black relative exposure
values, which the exposure module would not do). Also on the 'scene'
tab, I set my white and black relative exposures (using the histogram,
the over/under-exposure indicator, and just my eyes), then switch to
the 'look' tab to set contrast, adjusting the other sliders if needed
(e.g. latitude to avoid clipping the curve, and extreme luminance
saturation if highlights get too much desaturated; I rarely alter the
shadows/highlights balance). I may go back to scene, usually to fix
overly dark shadows. I don't touch the 'display' tab. I use a bit of
'contrast equalizer' (I boost both luma and chroma contrast for
midtones at all frequencies, but just a bit), 'local contrast', and
'colour balance' with output saturation = 115 (could be more for
landscapes or dull scenes); for all those contrast/colour
enhancements, I often mask skin tones (I have saved presets with
parametric masking to do so quickly). Occasionally, I use the tone
equalizer as well.
