That is the part which I had previously explained. After setting up the 
watermark module the way you want it, click on the hamburger menu and save as a 
new preset, but, while doing so, check the box which says, «auto-apply this 
preset to matching images.» When you do that, whatever image you chose as your 
watermark, at whatever position you had set it, at whatever scale, rotation, 
and opacity you had set, will become the default thereafter.

I do understand the issues below; I guess my issue is that if I click on the 
watermark, the default is the darktable file, not any of my files.  I still 
have to select my file.  Also, if I then click on a preset, the watermark
