junkyardsparkle,

Thanks I'll have a look at your style when I get home.

David,

I understand what you are saying but is there anything wrong with wanting
the colors to be as they actually are? Then from that point manipulate the
image as you see fit? I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I
have another image of a bird, black headed gull, in flight against a light
blue sky. I wanted to try and make the bird sharper against the sky as it
was but I've not been able to get the blue correct. Maybe I should just use
the jpg with gimp.

Rob,

I've tried the other base curves as you suggest. None of them really help
to get the blue as it actually was and is show in the jpg.

Christian,

Thanks for the offer. I followed the instructions on the link you provided
and have created a basecurve preset. All the files used and created can be
seen here [1]. And the SQL for the new present is shown bellow....

echo "INSERT INTO presets VALUES('Canon
60D','','basecurve',2,X'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',1,X'00000000180000000000C842000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F',7,0,'','%','%','%',0.0,51200.0,0.0,10000000.0,0.0,100000000.0,0.0,1000.0,0,0,0,0,2);"
