My experience: jpgs, from my Canon camera, do not fully reflect reality anyway, they are only the manufacturers 'best guess' and in many instances are rather a poor guess. That is why I start at square one and ignore the jpg coloration.

junkyardsparkle,

Thanks I'll have a look at your style when I get home.

David,

I understand what you are saying but is there anything wrong with wanting the colors to be as they actually are? Then from that point manipulate the image as you see fit? I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I have another image of a bird, black headed gull, in flight against a light blue sky. I wanted to try and make the bird sharper against the sky as it was but I've not been able to get the blue correct. Maybe I should just use the jpg with gimp.

Rob,

I've tried the other base curves as you suggest. None of them really help to get the blue as it actually was and is show in the jpg.

Christian,

Thanks for the offer. I followed the instructions on the link you provided and have created a basecurve preset. All the files used and created can be seen here [1]. And the SQL for the new present is shown bellow....

echo "INSERT INTO presets VALUES('Canon 60D','','basecurve',2,X'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',1,X'00000000180000000000C842000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F00000000000000000000803F0000803F',7,0,'','%','%','%',0.0,51200.0,0.0,10000000.0,0.0,100000000.0,0.0,1000.0,0,0,0,0,2);" | sqlite3 ~/.config/darktable/library.db

    That's a generous offer Christian.

To the OP - I suggest first looking at all the other base curves
available as well rather than just the one selected for your
camera. You may find one you like, indeed you may find you prefer
the 'pentax look' or 'nikon look' or some other manufacturer's
in-camera style to your own and get the opportunity to 'change
cameras' without spending any money :-)

    Good luck,
    Rob.

    Hi,

Matching colors by hand isn't easy. What about creating a
basecurve for this camera model [0]? I think it's worth a try,
because it's not hard to do. If you don't use the git version of
darktbale, I can create the basecurve. Simple provide me a raw+jpg
    like descripted at [0].

Written nicely ;-). That also reflects my experience. After two
months I stopped using raw+jpg, because it is simple too much
work. Copying/applying styles and exporting is easier and faster.
