I do agree, and when you consider the huge amount of technical details concerning DT you will notice that later on, it's far easier to recover a solution in your mother tongue than in a language you hardly control. At first, it's true that Google Translate can help, but as soon as things become subtle, you sharply feel like talking to a lunatic, and you quickly come back to the english text. When i discovered DT I also was beginner as a photographer. So i wrote remembering notes in French to make things clear for me and eventually for people like me. (http://abcdarktable.esy.es/abcdarktable/intro/) I'm convinced that if I hadn't done this exploration/translation work I still would only be a GIMP user. I'm really fond of DT and I think that what we miss is a centralized area where to put or link all the hard to find how-to scattered on the web.
