Hi Jon,

For a really simple 3-column report in HTML try this:

In First Page Header:

<html>

<head>

  <title>My DP Report Title</title>

</head>

<body>

<table border="1" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0">

  <tr>

    <th align="center" valign="middle">Heading Col1</th>

    <th align="center" valign="middle">Heading Col2</th>

    <th align="center" valign="middle">Heading Col3</th>

  </tr>

In the DP Report Body add this, using F4 to place your data in the DPData1,
etc placeholders

  <tr>

    <td align="left" valign="middle">DPData1</td>

    <td align="right" valign="middle">DPData2</td>

    <td align="center" valign="middle">DPData3</td>

  </tr>

In the Final Footer add this:

</table>

</body>

</html>

The indenting is only for readability, so you ca put it all flush left if
you like, it up to you.

Set the report to create a File and name it something with a .HTM.

HTML is a little like WordPerfect Reveal Codes, and CSS is a little like
WordPerfect Styles.

You can start as simple as you like and then add more things as you need it.

Styles can either be added directly to the HTML eg

<body style="font-family:Arial;">

Which is called an inline style

Or embed in a style block in the head of the document eg

<head>

…

<style>

body

{

background-color:#d0e4fe;

}

td

{

font-family:Arial;

}

</style>

</head>

Or in an external stylesheet, which is referenced from within the head of
the page eg

<head>

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="mystyle.css" />

</head>

For DP styling from external CSS files are generally a good option, as you
can keep the presentation complexity out from the DP Report, and concentrate
more on the data.

The following are two good tutorials to get you started.

Regards

Brian

Brian,

Thanks for the tip -- maybe HTML the best way to go, then bring into Word
(maybe Wordpad simplest) and print or have outlook send.

I'm low IQ on HTML, but sounds like a lot of codes to put into my reports --
is a there a "HTML for idiots" ref out there?

I'm not famililar with CSS, that is this in a nutshell?

I should have added that you need to change the %1 to the name of the file
to print

If you want rich printing capabilities why wouldn’t you use HTML and CSS.
DP is a whiz at creating HTML pages, and you can mark these up with CSS to
have great control of printing.

You just need to output the report as a file, and you can either right click
on the file in Explorer and click Print,

If you do not want so much interactivity you could set up a batch file to
periodically look for any files in a folder and then run the command:

rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System\mshtml.dll,PrintHTML "%1"

which will print the HTML using CSS, images, etc etc.

If you wanted to convert the HTML to something else, eg .DOC, .PDF, or you
wanted something to sit and monitor a folder, and didn’t wnt to write the
batch file yourself then the (not free) program TotalHTMLConverter and
Total FolderMonitor might be useful. I have not personally used either, but
they look quite capable and easy http://www.coolutils.com/TotalHTMLConverter

Copy to printer or PDF conversion: does this take away all the formating and
leave me with plain text?

"print to file" just captures the print stream to a file instead of sending
it to the printer. If is just straight text (no print codes), it should
come up in Word fine. Otherwise, you can copy it to the printer or use a
text editor to modify it or send the file to a PDF converter to create a PDF
or just right click on it in windows explorer and send it the printer ....

Would using the "Print to file" choice using the Reports function and saving
it as a .doc or other extension for printing be a viable workaround?

It has been a while since I used direct printing (only remaining DP app in
production doesn't print), but if I recall correctly, the way I got this to
work in XP, was to share the USB printer (say, as "MyPrinter").
Then use: "net use lpt2: \\MyComputer\MyPrinter" command to map the usb
printer.   -chris
