Possibly getting off topic here, but I happened to read a bit of this discussion and while seeing your comment I thought it might be a good time to remind you about #934463. While I'm no longer maintaining the relevant package, I don't think you should expect the current situation to persist for as many years as we've already been carrying this for you. You have been let known, so please spare us from receiving rage once it actually happens. (I'd personally also be very happy if we could see some movement on a bunch of other sysvinit bug reports that is relevant even for non-sysvinit users, which would at the same time give me more confidence in that it's useful to engage in discussion like this at all.)
