I really admire your dedication behind your product and that you are
available for "ad hoc" communication at all times. Thank you for that.

However, I believe that there could be some better way of "systematic"
communication of any changes to the software, the configuration files, knows
beta caveats, etc. I believe I follow this list pretty consistently, but I
certainly missed the announcement that the "Spam Routing" test has
effectively become deprecated (e.g., you consider it obsolete, it's using
invalid country data and you see no sense improving its reliability).

There was no announcement. It's a change that has slowly occurred over several years. When the test was first developed, it was known that the IP/region guessing wasn't 100% accurate. When the test was first created, it was a cutting edge spam tool -- it caught a very high percentage of spam, and wasn't available in any other product. As a result, we didn't want to give out all the details of how the test worked.

After it was released, a few minor changes were made to accommodate the IP/region guessing, but no attempt was ever made to go into more detail (the country level) or accuracy (which would be very difficult). The test still works today, only catching about 20% of spam, but false positives may be a bit higher.

While the test is becoming obsolete, it still works. We aren't planning to improve the reliability simply because it isn't worth it -- to do so would require using the IP/country database (which is quite big). If we're going to do that, we might as well come up with a new test (perhaps a COUNTRYROUTING one that would work the same but with countries, and see how that works).

I would be very nice if you could share these "updates" with your customers
so that we can consider your product decisions in our configurations.

We are. It just hasn't come up until now, as far as I know.

As happy as I am with Declude, I am occasionally dismayed how these things come
to light accidentally, seemingly only after "probing" for the information.

I can understand that. Unfortunately, we just don't have the resources to continually go through the code, look for things that may be getting a bit outdated, determine how to handle each one, make any necessary changes, communicate them, etc. Instead, we're focusing resources on adding new features, to ensure that we are staying ahead of spammers (such as Web-o-Trust and SPF support), and handling reports of obsolescence of features as they come up.
