Bill,

You are missing the point, or at least not acknowledging that it has any value.  I appreciate and value that legitimate E-mail should not be blocked whenever practical, and I admit wholeheartedly that two of Topica's thousands of IP addresses do fall into a gray category.  Convincing each other that we are wrong is probably not possible though, so we should probably save the list from continued discussion unless there is some other development that you feel others would benefit from (like SBL blocking personal E-mail, which I am very curious about).

Thanks,

Matt

If this stuff comes from the same IP, both
good and bad, then how do you tell it
apart? Do you merely rely on content filters?

Quite simple, actually. This from one of the legitimate list messages from
yesterday:

BONDEDSENDER:-5 FIVETEN-SPAM:2 INTERSIL:3 INTRUDERS:2 SPAMHAUS:4 SPEWS:3
WEB-O-TRUST:-3 MAILPOLICE-BULK:3 SECURITYSAGE:3 nNOLEGITCONTENT:-5
SNIFFER-WHITERULE:-2 SPAMCHECK:-2 REDUCTION-FILTER:-5 MAILFROM-FILTER:5 .
Total weight = 3.

I checked my log from yesterday again, and did not find a single message
from topica.com that was spam - they were all legitimate list messages.
This is not to say that we do not receive spam from topica address space,
but if we do, they are not getting delivered. Again, the benefit and having
and using a spam weighting system is that you can both deliver legitimate
messages and block spam from the same source.

Bill
