The error message to me implies that for some reason, the recipient mail
server was not able to finish processing the receipt of the email. I am
guessing that some "spam" mechanism is not gracefully ending the process.
But this suggestion of low disk space is pretty good! 

Defining the issue would be much easier if someone on the recipient end was
willing to participate. The emails are going through again though we have no
idea exactly why.
