Hello Dario, Perhaps whoever buys Delphi/Kylix might move to the Mac. I suppose the graphics libraries might require a lot of work. It's a smaller market than for the PC so it might not work economically. I do not work on the Mac, though I am thinking to get some experience: if it had Delphi, I would find it an easy move;
My problem is that in Milan, Delphi is not much used (from now on this will probably get worse); I have had bad problems with Delphi in the past: its dbexpress driver for Oracle was unusable for two years (Delphi 6) without third party drivers and the problem only resolved with Delphi 7 (for Delphi 6 they never sorted it out); The Delphi 8 and Delphi2005 interfaces were very unstable: I'm not surprised that Delphi is in trouble; >From a work point of view, I am moving towards C#, C++ or Java; I suppose that C# or Java might be the best for Macintosh. What is your opinion? >From a professional point of view, I have given up on Delphi except for maintenance of old programs and reengineering to another language: I could not honestly reccomend Delphi to a client for a new project, even if it is personally my preferred tool: - on Windows it can't compete for general use with VisualStudio/DotNet or Java: - it's too expensive, though if Delphi disappears, Microsoft will be able to increase its costs. - Borlands recent policy decisions do not inspire (Inprise) confidence. - most client management in Italy have never heard of Borland, though they know who Microsoft is; - it might work for a year, but what happens in 5 years?
