When I look at Delphi I see more then just a IDE, I see the VCL, the
streaming system, RTTI, the packaging system and the ease of use (talking
D7). In fact, I think the IDE is the leest important for me! Those are the
true inovations Borland came up with, those are the things that made Delphi
better then VB for the Win32 platform, and those are all of grate value!

Also not to be forgotten: Delphi is pascal-based, so that makes it very easy
to learn. While I don't think this is a problem for me (I've allready learnt
a few different programming languages and I guess this is just as they say
it is about foreign languages: after the first few you learn, it all comes
easy) but it's very important for my "crew". Add to this the fact that an
novice user can drop a button on form, double click to get an OnClick event
and put in some code, withoug understanding any of the complexitys that make
the whole system work!

I've got no plans to write anything (except my web site) using .NET in the
following two years. It makes no economical sense for me to do so. When I've
got D8 and D9 upgrades I allmost knew I'll only use them for "playing
around" and testing. I aint had any real intention of using them for any
real work.

I've got other raisons to stay with Delphi: I'm maintaining 3 large
applications, all with lots of users (most users got a "maintainance/service
contract" so those applications are continuously paying back). Those 3 large
applications are 100% Delphi and they make heavy use of all those grate
Delphi features (like VCL, RTTI, Streaming), and I'm anything but a fan of
"rewriting" stuff form one language to an other just for the sake of
compiling with a different compiler!

And if that's not enough, I can count 3 new menu's in my Delphi's IDE that
make my life with the IDE much easyer (no point in enumerating what those
are and what they do). I've also got lots of custom components scattered all
over my component palette, I've got "experts" installed in the IDE to help
syncronize build numbers betwen the work I do in the IDE and the work I do
using FinalBuilder to build my realeses.

Hmmm... and there's probably more but I'm missing it at this point.
I guess I'm so productive with my Delphi 7 and I have integrated it into my
work enviroment it's allmost family :) After all, I've unfortunatelly
managed to spend more time with Delphi (at work) then my family the last few
month...
