Hmm, look at Winmerge - dropped Examdiff quickly when I found that.

Nope. This is no way comparable to VCS. I just use TortoiseCVS and
does everything I want. Merge, branch, multiple checkout, retrieval of
any committed version. Until you have worked with one, you don't realise
what you are missing in a tool. Tortoise with local repository gets you a 
long way over zip. A backed-up CVS server is better - and all free tools.
