The best data we have on the section edit link is, IIRC, the original A/B test from a few years ago, summarized at: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Section_edit_modification#Technical_requirements.2C_feature_requirements.2C_and_user_experience I don't think we tested for revert rate at the time, but we should certainly not make permanent further modifications to the location without good data-informed reasoning. "Annoying" isn't sufficient.
