I have added an 'Alternate' to the 'Alternate' proposal for how to provide access to the home directory browsing UI:

Comments in no particular order:

The "sign up; it's free" feels inappropriate for the Cosmo login page. Perhaps for the hosted service, but not a default for other people running Cosmo.

The links in the upper right are confusing; do I click them instead of the submit button to login, or click them to get an alternate signin username/password form? The answer is easily discoverable once implemented but mildly confusing from reviewing just the comp.

About Cosmo might be better in the upper right, moving the alternative logins to center-bottom.

Currently, I favor the conventional checkboxes (radio buttons, probably) for alternate login (proposal #2), or the commonly used pulldown for login destination (ala O'Reilly's Safari site), plus a settings option to add the needed links to a given user's UI.

I don't suspect it's super-important to give direct login for filesharing or admin users. Admin users should probably go directly to the admin UI and not the PIM, by virtue of their admin flag setting (works that way now). Filesharing users will get the same number of clicks to get to the filebrowsing UI once they set their settings to add it to the UI. The login page should stay clean and understandable in preference to being featureful; I'd be ok without any changes to the login page, but I realize that's not the design team consensus.

As a side note, as long as we're doing login preferences, I think it'd be great to be able to select whether calendar or dashboard is presented by default. I'd like to get the calendar by default for my account. (From a previous review, I felt that perhaps the "switch to calendar" button wasn't obvious enough in the last comp I saw).
