Hi Charles
Er... what???? You were invited in the first place to this discussion.
Read the logs. We were waiting for you and at some point I just thought
that it was pointless to have such a session if you were not there. So
you received your mail, just like everybody who was concerned.
i red them and saw that you've been driven this discussion in very well
maneer
but seems i'm not subscribed to the right lists ... and so, did not
received any email
moreover, this was not directed against you, Charles ...
You may want to refer to the Mozilla Corporation then, not the
foundation. And besides, each project has its own specificities.
i personnally really think that seeing extensions as cash flow
provider is a mistake - speaking about commercial companies (that's
their problem) but (and that's our domain) also for OOo. We will loose
contributors and finally end with 2 levels OOo software: the default
free (as idea and speech) one and the extended-added-value-propriatary
one
This outcome is foreseeable and desirable, actually.
definitevely not, as usual imho
don't get me wrong !
proprietary extensions can (and will) exist
my NO is that OOo advertize them just only to get money, doing the
marketing job of lazy big companies
once again, i want OOo focus on high quality stuff (free or propriatary
- yes you red me well) instead of being dependant of any advertizing
revenue. I already proposed some rough approaches to get money from
these high quality stuff ...
btw, does firefox sell stuff ? does eclipse sell stuff ? does
thunderbird sell stuff ?
but seems this projects are funded ...
Yes. But think that what is wanted here is not to find one single way to
generate revenue. Rather, it is about generating small amounts of
revenue wherever we can.
this will more hurt than cure anything, especially for small revenues
you'll loose contribution from community
this recall an email i wrote on french lists 3 years ago
"make money yes, sell our soul no"
