Hi,

I am thinking that I am wrong about my approach to uploading FAQs to the OOo
site as individual files from OOoAuthors, and that my concept is not serving the
FAQ community as well as the script file transfer would serve the community. To
take steps to correct my stubborn approach, I am considering creation of a
directory, called "collaboration", at the user-faq project, and then uploading
the decompressed HTML file provided by Con's (CPH's) script file.

I think this would make the url for the new faq set:

http://user-faq.openoffice.org/collaboration/

If I do this, I will also create a page at the user-faq project (maybe as an
index to the collaboration directory) that explains various ways for
OpenOffice.org community members to work with errors visible in this FAQ set,
including filing of issues at the user-faq project, or repairing issues
themselves at the OOoAuthors project.

I will then show links and discussion at the documentation project index...

http://documentation.openoffice.org/faqs/

...to help show the various sets of faqs and ways that we are trying to make FAQ
contributions easier for the OOo community.

I picked the user-faq project for this collaborated faq set, both because it is
Con's innovation that will allow us to do this massive transfer, and because it
will keep the FAQ noise separated from the documentation project work, where
much time and effort is spent by developers of the on-line help documentation,
which is included with the OOo product. I did not want to inundate those
hard-working folks with faq related email messages from the issues list and dev
lists, especially when it will not pertain directly to their work. I know that I
can get very noisy in the issue tracker and on the mail lists, and anticipate
that I will, if I perform this task.

Especially if you rebel against this movement, please speak up so that your
thoughts may be heard! Perhaps I am the only rebel too, which would not surprise
me. This rebel is beginning to cave, because I think perhaps my idea was off
track with what is wanted or desired from the community, and I have actually
become a hurdle to the process, as it is.

I now am starting to think we should fully experiment with all of our options,
at the very least, and then use real data or community spirit or whatever
might exist to show us which method rules, so that we can narrow the faq work to
one set of faqs.

I have cross posted to hit all potential contributors or folks who might have
something to say about this. To keep the conversation in one place, and to keep
the noise down on lists busy with other work, I suggest that all responses be
sent to

[email protected]

Please share what you think... else I will carry out my actions close to what is
shown herein.

Thank you for your time, and for your contributions thus far!

:)

Diane
