Leon (fellow PLUG member) has created a tutorial on tunnelling with PuTTY: http://www.cyberknights.com.au/doc/PuTTY-tunnelling-HOWTO.html Leon does comment on a problem he had with XP, but I'm not sure whether it is relevant to the problems that you are having Jean.
No, my basic problem is as mentioned in previous notes. I simply cannot work out where to put what information in the PuTTY program so I can even attempt to get a connection. I've never got past that to see if I'll have any difficult with any of the other steps that are explained in the bits I've snipped off your note.
I don't have much time to spend on this, and am not in a situation at the moment where I can get much time online (at my mother's place, where I can only use the phone line for more than a few minutes late at night, not a good time for me). I find this all hugely frustrating because I know I'm missing something that everyone else seems to get.
