Hi,

some first comments.

1. it is definitely an improvement
2. i would move download on top -> maybe place all in one line and download is the first item from left 3. the text is too big, too much to read and it is not clear on the first look what are the differences between the points (at least not for all) 4. make the symbols bigger, let the symbols speak and make the text smaller (maybe tool tips)
4. a little bit more space after the bullets and the grey footer
5. i miss a prominent link to the user forum

The first impression is important and we should focus on that. 90% want simply download the program -> we should concentrate on that and make it as simply as possible.

The next entry points for me are developers or participate in the project and users. Cross links from between the different sections should be possible and we have probably overlaps

Anyway nice work and i am looking forward to a much better OO.org side...

Hi support related folks,

Currently we, at the [EMAIL PROTECTED] project, are working hard to complete a new main page for openoffice.org and a new style for the OOo website in general. You can see it live at http://test.openoffice.org .

One thing I've been concerned with for some time already, although I never took time to actively join these lists before... is that the landing page for support is overcrowded with information. I don't think this is the type of page a user seeking help is happy to see... "Where do I click?!?!" ...

Although the support page is not the only page that needs attention, the new design has even a greater emphasis on beginning users... and thus the support page becomes even more important. Originally it has been suggested that the big text: "I need help with my OpenOffice.org" links to support.openoffice.org ... compared however with the minimalistic main page... this might be somewhat of a shock. If you click on this link now though (at test.openoffice.org ), you'll see a text that I prepared, which kind of takes the time to explain the options... in a less "here's a bunch of links, see for yourself" type of way. The problem, however, is that

a) it is not finished (and we want to go live soon (if it is not finished, we'll have to link to support.openoffice.org ) b) hardly anyone had a serious look at it, besides saying that it looks like an improvement... and confirming that support.openoffice.org definitely needs a rewrite...
c) my native tongue isn't English, so ...

So I'm asking your help... would some of you want to volunteer improving this page? The page is simply copied from my initial copy at the wiki:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Website/Content/help

(also take a look at the sub pages)

If you edit at the wiki, I'll make sure that the changes are copied to the html site. Of course, if you feel that some things need to be debated first... please do so! (I'm now subscribed to both dev@ documentation.openoffice.org and user-faq.openoffice.org)

Thank you very much in advance!

Kind regards,

Maarten Brouwers
