Hi Alex,

Not necessarily. On my Mandriva system using KDE, any attempt to install software results in a password dialog asking for the root password. KDE has a small background process which detects when root privileges are needed. I would expect that Gnome has the same.

Let's concider the following, if we ask the user to type su for a
multi-user installation and type the XAUTHORITY command, we can make the rest of the process graphical using the Java Installer.

It would work in every RPM environment, and it would use the recommended way of installing in a Linux RPM environment by the installation team.

I think that a completely manual method that works on all RPM environments should also be included, here in the form of the current manual instructions, using rpm -ivh. It works very well.

All other instructions that rely on, for OOo, 3rd party software, such as windows manager utilities or other utilities that might differ between different Linux RPM environments, should go in the wiki, together with Slackware and other systems.

What's important is that, I absolutely think that all by OpenOffice.org non supported instructions that we can find should be available to the user, and I think that the wiki is the right place.
