As far as I know ODG is based on SVG but not as extensive. But I'm no
expert so that could be wrong.

I fully agree - or we are going to end up advocating ODF and .doc :-)

If necessary I'd like to see Draw modified to be able to cope with the
full SVG spec. In the future that could lead to a lot of powerful
extensions to OOo and aid interoperability.
