   I agree that keeping things case-sensitive by default for now is probably 
the best option. It's the least likely to cause trouble for those that are 
expecting the established behavior, and it's easy to change for those than want 
case-insensitive.
   
   Switching to case-insensitive by default for backends that are generally 
case-insensitive in practice (LDAP and some SSO providers) probably does make 
sense but the risk of surprise feels like it's worth being part of 2.0.0.
