Will there be ongoing confusion as to whether there will be a 4.11 release?
The answer is clearly a resounding YES!
That said, it is now clear that 5.0 will be the next non-patch release.
But that does not eliminate the possibility that in the future somebody
might not come up with a rationale for another non-patch 4.x release.
Unlikley, but still possible. Some users might be desperate for some
non-patch feature and not be able to migrate production Solr servers for
some reason.
And there will certainly be plenty of confusion about 5.0 vs. 4.x until the
committers start doing a much better job of explaining the transition to
non-committers. I mean, I THINK I understand, but how many average Solr
users really understand? For example, the question of whether average users
will get any significant benefit from migrating their indexes from 4.x to
5.0 is still quite murky. Will they be faster? Smaller? What features will
or won't work with a non-migrated 4.x index? No clear answers have been
provided, to date.

Subject: Is there going to be Lucene/Solr 4.11?
Hello,
I found two JIRAs I was interested in marked as merged in 4.x branch
(SOLR-5097 and SOLR-5098). Got excited and then discovered they were
merged after 4.10 and the info added to the 4.11 README section.
Does it mean there _will_ be a Solr 4.11? I thought the discussion was
that 4.10.x was the end of the line. Or is this just a general
practice with no consequence and I will only saw those JIRAs in 5.0
(whenever that shows up)?
Regards,
Alex.
