what do you think about creating a special kind of merchandising
articles to be sold at fairs, on the OOoCon or even online (coming
back to the idea of an OOo shop)?
My idea derives from the possibility to design personalized stamps in
several countries serving as official postage for letters.
I like the general idea of merchandise, but I'm not sure that
personalised stamps are a good item to have. My reason is: I almost
never snail-mail anything any more;[..]

I have to agree with Jean. I do a bit of mailing providing CDs but not
enough to justify that added expense.
I send about three or four letters a year - but that's exactly the
point: We are accustomed to use the computer for mailing, contacts with
other people and so on. But quite a large target group for
OpenOffice.org (like elderly people) are less confident in computer
usage - and among them are quite a number of people collecting stamps.
I agree with you both, that it might not be worth the money (or the risk
not to get back the money we have to pay in advance), I just don't know it.
On a fair I would spend 10 Euro for 10 stamps with a postage of 5,50
Euro, just like to buy some stickers for 50 Cent each. But I wouldn't
buy them online - it would take too much effort.
If anyone in the USA is interested there is a service called stamps.com
that maybe of help.
I already included their prices in my spreadsheet :-)
Best regards
Bernhard
