Btw, I can't really see how that can could be really blocking. Apache Maven
and many maven-*- itself are now source controlled with git AND released
with m-r-p. We also use that combination at work and have no issue. So it's
already proven to work at least under many situations.

I'm personally +1 here because:
- this will make mojo dev a bit more consistent with apache maven dev
standards (which again already started migration some months ago).
- I'm sure this will higher contribution, for example through github and
the likes.
-- ease jira tickets' patches more specifically
