I can confirm that the results are very similar with the Zpl Emulator. There
are spots where the font artifacts differ, but I can confirm that they suffer a
similar fate. Results attached below. I expect [~lite1979] to receive the
same results on physical hardware.

We have a commercial support contact with AdoptOpenJDK, so we can help if it's
Java. If it's a Windows bug, we would be very interested in any code-side
workarounds you may be able to suggest (either Java-side or PDFBOX-side).
Since other PDF renders can handle this on Windows, I'm inclined to think some
form of workaround is available.
