I tested your code with my A4 printer and could reproduce the effect (very
slightly, not as obvious as you did) when setting the font size at 4. I played
with the rendering hints but I omly managed to get the result worse. Another
thing to try: set the dpi (second to last) parameter of {{PDFPrintable}} to 600
instead of 0. Also add "EDAX" after "test". In my test the "X" was slightly
better with PDFBox.
