Hi,

The automatic font conversion that OOo 2.0 RC3 does in its launcher
script is a TERRIBLE idea.
No.
The use of native fonts with *OpenOffice.org2.0* is a good idea. Mac
users appreciate it : looking at the statistics of OpenOffice.org2.0
for Mac OS X download, this is confirmed.
Remember : Mac user *do not want* to do anything : just drag and
drop, and start.
To follow your request, I think a better solution should be to ask
the end user, only one time and at first start. Something like add a
checkbox at first start. It may even be possible with Applescript.
Of course, the perfect solution is to use native font server, but
implement use of native font server needs a lot of time. Maybe are
you interested to implement this solution yourself ?
If so, you're welcome ! Feel free to provide us the necessary code
if you want in order to use native font server on Mac OS X
OpenOffice.org port ! :-)
Please make this optional, and NOT the default. Stuffing unwanted
and poorly converted fonts into the OOo truetype folder would be
worthy of the arrogance of Microsoft installers.
Ok, we will try do it. Please be patient.
I mirror Mac OOo & NeoOffice inside Sun,
I invite you to write Mac OS X port of OpenOffice.org, not "Mac
OOo". Or simply OpenOffice.org.
We all are proud here to work for OpenOffice.org project, and
official port of OpenOffice.org on Mac OS X name is "OpenOffice.org".
and had to remove the two calls to fondu in the RC3 launcher
applescript.
You're saying you have modified *Official builds* and you
redistribute them modified ?
If so this is not acceptable. Please stop this : if changes must be
done, it will be in next versions, following OpenOffice.org community
rules.
Sun employees need to use the same fonts as other Star Office
users, so automatically converting of Mac fonts into the OOo
truetype fonts folder is intrusive and unwanted.
Sorry, I do not unterstand what you wrote here, and more informations
are probably necessary. Why are you talking about Sun employees and
StarOffice font use in this context ? Does a StarOffice version of
Mac OS X port exist ?
FYI, all important modifications have been discussed here and/or on
IZ, and everyone is invited to contribute constructively. Please read
[EMAIL PROTECTED] archives.
Such unexpected behind the scenes conversions should ONLY be done
with the user's permission!

For a lot of softwares, a lot of things must be done without explain
everything to the user. For example, Microsoft does even more, and
none cares...
Waiting we find a solution respecting your request, up to you to
propose patches, code and/or a reasonable solution we could apply.
Regards,
eric bachard
