Exactly this is the problem. It returns an *ERROR*, so searching for "string 1" OR "string 2" will fail grandiosely. Actually, it is impossible to perform this search in calc. This is a *BUG*. (the full comments can be found for issue 66590)

The error was chosen because "another" application does it the same

Copying the quirks of one application will not make Calc a better application.

GAWK should be viewed in this context as a nice workaround, allowing powerful string manipulations in Calc and therefore I hope that an experienced developer takes one afternoon to implement this functionality.
