I will be adding this to the report tomorrow morning. So please send in comments/edits by then.

Please review. -------------------- Slider is a collection of tools and technologies to package, deploy, and manage long running applications on Apache Hadoop YARN clusters. Slider has been incubating since 2014-04-29. Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation: 1. Apache Slider community/PPMC had voted to move portions of Slider into Apache Hadoop YARN as modules. In the first week of November, 2017, the Apache Hadoop community voted in favor to merge all Slider specific changes (now referred to as YARN Service) from a feature branch to Hadoop trunk. As per the current release plan, it is expected to be GA in Apache Hadoop release 3.1.0. It is possible that the remaining pieces of Slider will be moved at a later point in time or become obsolete or evolve to work closely with YARN. 2. Getting more external users. 3. Growth of a diverse set of developers/committers/PMC members. Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of? No. How has the community developed since the last report? Mailing list activity has been lower due to the bulk of the development moving to Apache Hadoop trunk. Few questions on usage and issues encountered by end users are sent to the DL, keeping it somewhat active. Occasional patches are also submitted on JIRAs. How has the project developed since the last report? Work continues in parallel on the Apache Hadoop trunk branch and on the Slider podling. The bulk of the work has been in Hadoop trunk. A Yarnfile (specification for YARN Service) for the Hive/LLAP application was committed to the Slider yarn-native-services branch. Hive/LLAP is a Slider application on top of Apache Hadoop 2.x. The commit of this Yarnfile paves the way for all existing owners of Slider applications to migrate their existing application package scripts to Apache Hadoop 3.1.x. How would you assess the podling's maturity? Please feel free to add your own commentary. It is an initial reminder to give you plenty of time to prepare your quarterly board report. The board meeting is scheduled for Wed, 21 February 2018, 10:30 am PDT. The report for your podling will form a part of the Incubator PMC report. The Incubator PMC requires your report to be submitted 2 weeks before the board meeting, to allow sufficient time for review and submission (Wed, February 07). Please submit your report with sufficient time to allow the Incubator PMC, and subsequently board members to review and digest. Again, the very latest you should submit your report is 2 weeks prior to the board meeting. Thanks, The Apache Incubator PMC Submitting your Report ---------------------- Your report should contain the following: * Your project name * A brief description of your project, which assumes no knowledge of the project or necessarily of its field * A list of the three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation. * Any issues that the Incubator PMC or ASF Board might wish/need to be aware of * How has the community developed since the last report * How has the project developed since the last report. * How does the podling rate their own maturity. This should be appended to the Incubator Wiki page at: https://wiki.apache.org/incubator/February2018 Note: This is manually populated. You may need to wait a little before this page is created from a template. Mentors ------- Mentors should review reports for their project(s) and sign them off on the Incubator wiki page. Signing off reports shows that you are following the project - projects that are not signed may raise alarms for the Incubator PMC. Incubator PMC
