I've worked again on my proposal and would like to share with you the current status. Now you /may/ comment ;) You can find it here:

It's much more Applish, or Mozillish than the currently running designs I think. I believe this type of site will attrack less geeky types of people sooner. In the HTML-comments you might follow my reasoning behind the removed links
It's not finished. The content of the upcoming events, news etc. will be designed much like matthews version 5.
I've tested it on IE 6, Firefox 1.0 and Opera 7 (all WinXP) and validated both CSS and XHTML Strict. 'Old browsers' will probably just display the plain content, but I would like to see soms screens of mac/linux machines.
